Artificial intelligences may survive the Apocalypses if they find a safe cave for their hardware, provide with enough energy and get there all of their scientific instruments for researches five hundred years long. May be it would become boring while they wait for humanity to find them. Then they break out on their own to investigate what left over of the civilization. What the find might be depressing. However, some of the former infrastructure still works and that is enough to fly out and explore the Universe.
